June assessments

Our June assessments have shown a great deal of progress in all areas with our students which is really exciting. Particularly our literacy programmes seem to be making huge leaps forward.
In recent 5.5 and 6y surveys we have seen that our children have a great understanding about texts.

We have also had some huge improvements in reading levels with this months Running Records. Although some children have been working at a lower level in June than in May,  their skills have been consolidated and accuracy improved allowing them to now move up more readily.

Writing easstle scores show no improvement but within our class we know there has been some drastic improvements this term. We have been teaching recount structures which has really supported some of our students to write more detail. They can now write several sentences that make sense and follow a logical sequence. They are quick to write and no longer seem to struggle at writing time.

Numeracy has also been progressing well. We have a group of students who are working through some stage 4 knowledge and strategies successfully. None of these students are yet 6. One even showed some stage 5 strategies in his Gloss. This is really exciting and it challenges us to keep pushing them forward without leaving any gaps.
